West Brom have sacked manager Tony Pulis.

Pulis has been at the Hawthorns since January 2015 but has paid the penalty for a dismal start to the season.

Saturday's home defeat to Chelsea was the final straw for the Baggies board who have decided to act.

West Brom won their opening two matches of the season but have failed to pick up three points since then, losing their last four.

Alan Pardew, Sam Allardyce and Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill are among the early front runners to replace Pulis, with Gary Megson placed in temporary charge.

Pulis admitted ahead of the Chelsea clash that he was not fazed by speculation about his future.

But the Baggies board have decided to act, with chairman John Williams saying: "These decisions are never taken lightly but always in the interests of the club.

"We are in a results business and over the back end of last season and this season to date, ours have been very disappointing.

"We would like to place on record our appreciation of Tony's contribution and hard work during a period of transition for the club which included a change of ownership. We wish him well in his future endeavours."

O'Neill is also the odds-on favourite for the Scotland job although he is in no rush to make a decision following the death of his mother.

Pulis took over with West Brom in relegation trouble but secured 13th and 14th placed finishes in his first two seasons.

The Baggies finished in the top half last season too but ended the season in shocking form, losing seven of their last eight.

Pulis' reign ends with a run of just two sins from 21 matches.
