Wayne Rooney will have talks with manager Ronald Koeman today after he was charged with drink driving last Friday.

The striker could also be slapped with a two-week fine worth £320,000.

The Toffees star was pulled over by police in a black Volkswagen Beetle in Wilmslow, Cheshire and taken to a police station in Middlewich where he was quizzed by officers and later charged.

Koeman brought Rooney to Goodison Park in the summer and will take a dim view of the former England captain bringing the club into disrepute.

He will also threaten to dump Rooney on the transfer list if he steps out of line again.

Koeman laid down a number of ground rules before agreeing to the club’s venture to bring the Manchester United star back to Merseyside.

The Dutchman had concerns over Rooney’s drinking habits and in a frank discussion prior to Rooney putting pen to paper.Koeman, a strict disciplinarian, demanded there would be no more booze-fuelled antics.

He wanted Rooney to act as a mentor to the club’s young players and not be a bad influence with his off the field high jinks.

That mandate has gone up in smoke after Rooney was stopped by police near his Cheshire home in the early hours of Friday morning.

The only current saving grace for the forward is that the club failed to secure all their striking targets in the transfer window and that the incident happened during an international break.
