Chelsea parted company with Frank Lampard to accommodate Cesc Fabregas.

That's according to the man himself, who claims the club didn't think he could share a changing room with the incoming Spanaird.

Fabregas signed for Chelsea from Barcelona back in 2014 - the same year Lampard parted company with the club after 13 years service.

He went on to join New York City, but represented Chelsea's Premier League rivals Manchester City first, and even netted against the Blues in the 2014/15 season.

Speaking about the 2014 transfer, Lampard told BT Sport: "We never played together! They let me go to get Cesc in.

"Me and Cesc never really got on well on the pitch so they didn't think we could share a dressing room."

Fabregas is currently in his fourth season at Chelsea, after he signed a five-year contract with the club back in 2014.

The Blues parted with a fee in the region of £30million to land the Spaniard, who claimed he had "unfinished business" in the Premier League upon signing.
