Manchester City's campaign of shock and awe continued at Stamford Bridge with a hugely impressive win over champions Chelsea.

Kevin De Bruyne smashed a superb, 67th-minute strike past Thibaut Courtois to clinch a ninth win in their ten games this season.

This victory, to send City two points clear at the top, was their sixth in seven Premier League matches with the other drawn. They had already scored a club record 21 league goals after six games before this win.

Pep Guardiola and his backroom staff celebrated wildly on the touchline at the final whistle, well aware that City passed what was billed as their biggest test so far this season.

Antonio Conte’s Chelsea had no answer to the pace, power and technical superiority of their title rivals.

The home side appeared to have been set them up to get a point. Instead they were a major disappointment, suffering a Champions League hangover in the wake of last Wednesday’s magificent win at Atletico Madrid.

City may have lost striker Sergio Aguero in Thursday’s Amsterdam car accident, but they served notice of their frightening squad depth with their domination.

Conte is also now sweating on a major injury problem after Alvaro Morata limped off injured after just 34 minutes.

5 Talking Points

A Kevin de Bruyne stunner was enough to hand a dominant Manchester City side all three points against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The visitors began the game on the front foot, bossing possession and looking to get forward at every opportunity but were unable to make this dominance show.

Antonio Conte suffered a blow when Alvaro Morata was forced off clutching the back of his leg ten minutes before the break, with Willian taking his place.

City continued to press after the break and got their reward when De Bruyne unleashed a sweet left-footed drive from outside the area to put them 1-0 up.

Pep Guardiola’s men were able to close out the game and jumped above their neighbours United at the top of the table after temporarily slipping down to second place.

Here a five talking points from Stamford Bridge...

FULL TIME: Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

Premier League champions Chelsea hosted this season’s favourites at Stamford Bridge today and Manchester City showed their class to leave with a 1-0 win.

Kevin de Bruyne’s stunning left-foot strike midway through the second period left Thibaut Courtois with no chance, and earned Pep Guardiola’s men three points.

City dominated the game from the outset and Antonio Conte’s men were perhaps guilty of showing City too much respect.

De Bruyne was the difference maker, but City were too good all over the shop.

Gabriel Jesus thought he’d scored.

Stamford Bridge thought he’d scored.

Pep Guardiola thought he’d scored.

But he well-hit volley was blocked on the line (and headed away) by Antonio Rudiger quite brilliantly.

Appears Jamie Carragher is a big fan of Kevin de Bruyne.

A change for City meanwhile.

One Silva off, one Silva on. It’s Bernardo.

Double change for Chelsea

Eden Hazard and Tiemoue Bakayoko are off for Chelsea.

Antonio Conte is rolling the dice.

Michy Batshuayi and Pedro are on, in a bid to give Chelsea more attacking thrust.

17 minutes to go.

Disco's view

GOAL! Chelsea 0-1 Man City (De Bruyne)

“Oooooh, Kevin de Bruyne” sing the away fans and with good reason.

An aboslutely magnificent goal from the Belgian.

He’s only got two Premier League goals thus far this term, but this was a real show of class from the ex-Chelsea man.

He drives through midfield, attacks the space ahead of him and rockets a left foot shot past international teammate Thibaut Courtois.

A wonderful goal from a wonderful footballer.

65' gone

So it’s still Manchester City having the best of it.

Chelsea are struggling to get out of their own half for the most part, and are certainly struggling to get good combination play going anywhere near the City area.

Increasingly Hazard looks isolated as the main attacker, and they’re largely looking 5-4-1 the home side.

Gabriel Jesus has forced Courtois into a comfortable save.

Still 0-0.

"If we can be more like little Rudiger..."

Yep.

Every time!

*Applauds*

Delph's role

Fabian Delph’s role has been interesting today.

Playing left back, but not in the same manner as Kyle Walker.

Instead, he’s tucked into midfield when the ball has been in City possession to add an extra man, leaving Raheem Sterling (or Sane) to hug the touchline.

All City right now

City have taken command early in the second period.

David Silva is becoming more influential.

Leroy Sane has pushed over to the right side, with Sterling moving left.

Chelsea chasing shadows right now.

Half-time review

So, 0-0 at half-time.

Eden Hazard has flickered intermittently, Kevin de Bruyne likewise for the visitors.

The biggest threat from either side has perhaps come from Raheem Sterling; if he’d got his final pass right, it would be 1-0.

At the moment, both sides are perhaps cancelling each other out.

It’s City who look most likely...can they take advantage of Morata’s injury?

We’re closing on the second half...

(

The absent Benjamin Mendy was a big fan of Fernandinho’s effort just before half-time.

Unfortunately, Thibaut Courtois made a fine save.

Some Chelsea fans struggling to watch right now.

Really struggling to get going.

Pep Guardiola may feel this half has been a missed opportunity for his side.

Morata off injured

A huge blow for Chelsea.

Alvaro Morata has left the field, shaking his head, and has left Antonio Conte scratching his.

It seems to be a hamstring injury to the Spaniard, and he’s straight down the tunnel.

Penny for the thoughts of Michy Batshuayi...Willian is the man on, not the Belgian.

(

City were inches away from the lead.

Fortunately for Antonio Conte, Raheem Sterling put too much on his cross.

The Italian can’t be pleased right now.

(
Image:

Thibaut Courtois has been a very lucky boy and it’s City in the ascendency.

Chelsea seem happy to let City come at them and then play on the break.

Bakayoko and Kante already covering a huge amount of ground.

(

Good start from Manchester City here but Chelsea now looking to get on the ball that little bit more.

City look more keen to dictate the shape of the game and are looking to move the ball.

Noticeable how narrow Fabian Delph is coming at times too.

Walker vs Hazard

One of the key battles today will be that between Kyle Walker and Eden Hazard.

The £53million defender against Chelsea’s returning Belgian star.

Hazard was outstanding in midweek on his return against Atletico. Can he be the game-changer for Antonio Conte’s men today?

Conte has asked him to be more decisive. Walker is in for a tough afternoon.

John Stones' rise

He cost £50million 15 months ago, and John Stones spent much of his debut season being questioned at Manchester City.

But this term, the Yorkshireman has been very impressive.

He’s really stepped his game and is showing a growing amount of leadership, particularly in the absence of Vincent Kompany. Today, vs Alvaro Morata, will be a major test of his partnership with Nicolas Otamendi.

A quick tour around the City dressing room.

They are, of course, in their claret away kit here today.

Looking forward to seeing Fabian Delph at left back this afternoon. With Benjamin Mendy out injured for a considerable period now, its a big chance for him to establish himself in a new role.

Around the ground

Anticipation is rising around Stamford Bridge right now.

The half & half scarves (urghh) are in attendance.

Around 40 minutes from kickoff.

Man City Team

Pep Guardiola is without Sergio Aguero, so Gabriel Jesus leads the attack; Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling play from the wide areas.

Fabian Delph is again at left-back.

Apart from that, it’s pretty much as you expect. Ilkay Gundogan is on the bench.

Man City: Ederson; Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Delph; De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Silva; Sane, Gabriel Jesus, Sterling.

Subs: Bravo, Danilo, Gundogan, Mangala, Bernardo Silva, Alexander Zinchenko, Toure.

Chelsea Team

The Chelsea side is out.

David Luiz is out with Andreas Christensen replacing the suspended Brazilian.

Antonio Rudiger also starts, with Cesar Azpilicueta at right wing-back. Victor Moses and Davide Zappacosta are both on the bench.

Eden Hazard again starts up alongside Alvaro Morata.

Chelsea: Courtois; Rudiger, Christensen, Cahill; Azpilicueta, Kante, Bakayoko, Fabregas, Alonso; Hazard; Morata.

Subs: Caballero, Pedro, Moses, Kenedy, Zappacosta, Willian, Batshuayi.

The City slickers have arrived at Stamford Bridge.

Of course, Sergio Aguero is not with them.

Team News coming shortly.

Welcome

Eden Hazard is expected to start in the Premier League for the first time this season when Chelsea host Manchester City on Saturday.

Defender David Luiz completes his three-match domestic suspension for his dismissal against Arsenal, with Andreas Christensen poised to deputise.

Midfielder Danny Drinkwater (calf) is the only definite injury absentee.

Leaders Manchester City will be without Sergio Aguero for Saturday’s trip to champions Chelsea after the striker suffered rib injuries in a car crash on Thursday.

Left-back Benjamin Mendy is a long-term casualty after rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament in last week’s 5-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace.

Captain Vincent Kompany, who has missed the last six games, remains on the sidelines with a calf injury.
