William Gallas has revealed the way in which Arsenal supporters surprised him when he made his debut for the club.

The France international had just completed a move to north London from Premier League rivals Chelsea, and didn't know what to expect when he first pulled on the red shirt.

He made his debut for the club against Middlesbrough, and was happy that the fans apparently took to him quickly.

Speaking to Four Four Two, the former France international was asked to reveal his favourite memory from his time at Arsenal.

He replied: "I would say that my best memory at Arsenal is actually my first game against Middlesbrough.

"Because I'd arrived from Chelsea, the supporters would normally boo you.

"But when I was out on the pitch during the warm-up, they all applauded me. That was really nice - I did not expect that."

Gallas, who joined the Gunners back in 2006, remained at the club for four years before signing for rivals Tottenham.

He stayed in north London for a further three years before moving to Australia, where he briefly represented Perth Glory.
