Arsenal have been linked with a move for Barcelona winger Jose Arnaniz.

The Gunners have reportedly made an enquiry to sign the 22-year-old who made his first appearance for the club earlier this week following his arrival from Valladolid in the summer in a three-year deal.

A report in Mundo Deportivo suggests that Arsene Wenger is considering matching the €20m (£17.8m) release clause, but will face competition from Manchester United, Juventus, Napoli and Bayern Munich.

But should the winger decide to pen a new contract with the Catalan side, his release clause will double.

Arsenal kept hold of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil in the summer to give themselves the “best possible chance” to win something this season.

Ivan Gazidis insisted that if the Gunners were money-motivated, as they have been accused of being, they would have sold the star duo in the last window.

Arsenal have sold Samir Nasri to Manchester City in 2011 and Robin van Persie to Manchester United a year later, when both had just one year left on their deals.

But Sanchez and Ozil were both retained in similar circumstances this summer and are instead heading for free transfer departures at the end of the current campaign.

Alexis Sanchez will reportedly cost Manchester City at least £30million in the January transfer window as Arsene Wenger digs his heels in over the wantaway Chilean.

Sanchez is in the final year of his contract at Arsenal with the Gunners do far unable to agree a new deal with the 28-year-old, with City strongly linked with the forward.

A move to the Premier League leaders would see Sanchez reunited with his former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola and according to the Sun , Arsenal will not do business for less than £30million in January.

Sanchez would then have less than six months remaining in his current deal when the transfer window reopens in the New Year and Guardiola is reportedly only ready to bid £20million for the Chilean in January.
