Arsene Wenger has challenged his back-up boys to prove they are good enough to help Arsenal win trophies.

Wenger is preparing to shuffle his pack again for the Gunners’ Capital One Cup tie at Sheffield Wednesday.

Wenger rang the changes for Arsenal’s third round win at Tottenham, giving rare starts this season to David Ospina, Kieran Gibbs, Calum Chambers, Mathieu Debuchy, Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini.

Tonight’s trip to Championship Wednesday offers Wenger another chance to hand some much-needed game time to some of his squad players, writes Mirror Football's Adrian Kajumba.

And he said: “We want the players who come in to the team to show they are able to make the squad successful, and do absolutely everything to help us win. That’s the job of a footballer. When you get the chance, you have to be ready.”

Arsene Wenger has revealed his team news ahead of Arsenal's trip to Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday evening.

Per Mertesacker could return after missing Saturday's victory over Everton through illness, while Petr Cech will continue in goal as David Ospina continues his recovery from injury.

Mertesacker will be the only sidelined player to possibly come back into the team, with others who missed out at the weekend remaining absent.

Wenger told the Arsenal website: "There are no new problems from Saturday, Per Mertesacker is available again after illness.

"Ospina is still out too, so Cech will certainly play."
