Gunners get the nod for Nolito

Arsenal's chances of signing Celta Vigo forward Nolito have been given a massive boost, according to Sport.

The 28-year-old striker was also reportedly on Barcelona's books, but they have pulled out of the race for his signature, it has been reported.

Nolito is regarded as one of the most deadly strikers in La Liga and has hit five goals in his first six games of he season for the high-flyers.

The players age was reportedly an issue for Luis Enrique, but it might not put Arsene Wenger off.

A deal for Nolito could be completed in January if Arsenal continue to have problems up front.

Mathieu Debuchy is ready to quit Arsenal, according to the Daily Mail.

The Gunners defender has lost his spot in the team to Hector Bellerin and has been axed from the France international squad.

Keen to play in his home country's European Championships next summer, Debuchy could look for the exit to reignite his chances of making the final 23.

Boss Arsene Wenger is said to be reluctant to let his most senior right-back leave, despite him spending most of the current campaign as a substitute.

Debuchy did reveal this summer that he felt he was losing his place to Bellerin - and he has since been unable to get it back.

The 19-year-old is out-of-contract at the end of the current season and has been linked with a switch to the Premier League.

Wenger slams "very boring pundits"

Problems: Arsenal suffered an embarrassing Champions League loss to Olympiakos in midweek

Furious Arsene Wenger turned his anger on the "very boring pundits" who send most viewers to sleep, writes Mirror Football's John Cross.

Wenger insists he will never change his attacking philosophy which, by his own admission, either makes him look "absolutely marvellous" or "naive."

Gunners boss Wenger has come under heavy fire after the Champions League defeat to Olympiacos left ex-Manchester United captain Roy Keane calling Arsenal "soft and mentally weak."

That comes on top of repeated criticism from Sky pundit Gary Neville but Wenger made no apology for trying to win with style and claims playing unattractive football just to get results is a turn-off.

"If you play offensive football and you lose everybody kills you," said Wenger.

"But if you sit for ten games with a team which refuses to play then you will fall asleep and everybody says: 'why don't you attack?'

"When you don't win the games, you are wrong, not only for the reasons that people analyse. You have to accept that.

"But when Barcelona win the European Cup and attack from everywhere, we say: 'Oh, what a fantastic game, it's absolutely marvellous.'

"If you attack and you lose the game then everybody says: 'you're naive.' And it is true."

Wenger says he CAN win the title

Arsene Wenger blew his top on Friday before admitting he would deserved to be “slaughtered” if he did not believe Arsenal will win the Premier League, writes Mirror Football's John Cross.

Wenger threatened to walk out of his pre-match press conference after he was asked whether Jose Mourinho was right that he is the only Premier League manager who is not under pressure.

Wenger also said he “didn’t understand at all” why fans were angry at his decision not to pick Petr Cech for the Champions League. Wenger added: “I am accountable on the results of my team and the way they play football.”

But, after cooling down, Wenger claimed that Arsenal can win the title and his critics should remember that they are just three points behind leaders Manchester United who they face on Sunday.

When asked whether he still believed they could win the title after their Champions League disaster, Wenger said: “If I tell you now that we are three points behind Man United, playing Man United at home and I don’t believe that we can win the Premier League, what do you tell me? You will slaughter me."

Theo Walcott has hailed the performances of Mesut Ozil , saying that he “makes football look easy”, writes Mirror Football's Aaron Flanagan.

The German World Cup winner is a fan-favourite at Arsenal after making the club-record move from Real Madrid in 2013.

But he was criticised for his performance against Olympiakos in midweek, as Arsenal suffered a second consecutive Champions League defeat.

Despite that, Walcott still says that it is a pleasure to play alongside the playmaker.

Speaking to Arsenal.com, he said: “The first thing he does when he has the ball, in fact when he hasn’t even got the ball, is that he looks.

In pictures - Arsenal trio visit amputee football session:

“He looks first before he gets the ball and he knows where he’s going to play it before he’s even got it. That just shows the sort of quality we have in this team.

“Mesut’s involvement in the Stoke goal sums it up and also shows what he can do for this team. He makes football look easy and he's a special player who has so many assists in his game.

“He can do it anywhere on the pitch, he’s a threat from anywhere and when you’ve got that in your dressing room you can build on it.

“I know what he’s going to do now when he’s got the ball, I just need to keep making those runs and hopefully we can get that relationship going.”
