Wenger forced Gunners to watch Monaco horror

Arsene Wenger has put himself and his players through a re-run of their Champions League video nasty against Monaco.

But he is now desperate to erase the memory of their horror show on home turf and fast-forward to the challenges that lie ahead.

The Gunners were left shell-shocked by their humiliating 3-1 last-16 defeat to Monaco in midweek.

Wenger admitted: "It is always hard (to watch a defeat again). It is hard to see that you make mistakes."

Arsenal reveal staggering financial figures

Arsenal have announced their latest financial figures, revealing a staggering remaining cash reserve of £138.8million.

The Gunners made public their results for the six-month period ending in November 2014 on Friday, with their pre-tax profit standing at £11.1million.

And those figures are despite a record spend of £94million on players in the summer.

Chilean star Alexis Sanchez arrived at the Emirates for close to £35million while Danny Welbeck, Calum Chambers and Mathieu Debuchy were all brought in.

However despite the spend - and subsequent higher wage costs - the Gunners' turnover increased to £148.5million.

Wilshere undergoes ankle surgery

Jack Wilshere has had more ankle surgery which will extend his spell on the sidelines.

Wenger revealed midfielder Wilshere had a minor operation to ease the niggling pain in his ankle.

England star Wilshere, 23, has been out since November after an operation on the left ankle he injured against Manchester United.

And he went under the knife again yesterday to have part of the screw in his ankle removed.

Wilshere returned to the Arsenal squad for last week’s win at Crystal Palace but was left out of Wednesday’s defeat to Monaco after complaining of discomfort in training.

Money, money, money

Arsene Wenger will be given £50million to improve the playing squad in the summer, report the Telegraph.

The Gunners announce some staggering financial figures on Friday, including a remaining cash reserve of £138.8million.

And it is thought that a chunk of that will be given to the French boss to improve the playing squad in the summer, as he looks to turn the Gunners into title-chasers once again.

The report suggests that Wenger could be looking to sign a new goalkeeper and another centre-back in the summer, following the disastrous Champions League performance against Monaco during the week.

Gaya blow

Arsenal and Manchester United are set for a set back in their bids to sign Jose Luis Gaya from Valencia, according to the Daily Star.

The 19-year-old full-back, one of the highest-rated players in his position, is in line for a new contract at the Mestalla after a string of continually impressive performances.

Gaya has also been attracting interest from Spain's top clubs, as he has just a £13.5million buyout clause on his current deal.

Valencia president Amadeo Salvo confirmed earlier in the week that he was not going to be for sale at any cost - and says that the player intends to stay at the club.

Diaby deal

Work: Diaby (second left) is working hard in training to regain his fitness

Abou Diaby could yet be given a new contract at Arsenal, report the Daily Express.

The fringe player has been struggling with a host of significant injuries, meaning that he has hardly featured in Arsene Wenger's plans in the past two years.

But he could be offered a new deal, after it was confirmed that he was stepping up his recovery in training.

“Diaby is progressing in training, step-by-step, but he’s not in a position to play yet,” Wenger said. “I will have to talk to him soon (about the contract). I plan to do it in March.”

Toral trying to impress

Arsenal loan star Jon Toral has told media that he hopes his form at Brentford will earn him a new contract with the Gunners.

Toral told IBTimes UK that he is working as hard as possible to convince Arsene Wenger that he is worthy of a new deal at the Emirates.

The 20-year-old, formerly of Barcelona, was given the chance to earn more game time at Brentford by Wenger after appearing in the first-team during the pre-season trip to New York.

He said: "My contract at Arsenal is due to expire in the summer but they have an option to renew me (automatically). I am working hard to make the decision easier for them."
