Ramsey: Cech makes us contenders

Petr Cech finally began his love affair with Arsenal on Friday - and Gunners midfielder Aaron Ramsey believes they can now challenge for the title.

Former Chelsea keeper Cech, 33, began pre-season training and was put through his paces at the club’s Hertfordshire headquarters after returning from a family holiday in Sardinia.

These are the pictures that every Arsenal fan wanted to see after Cech’s £10m move from Stamford Bridge to become the new No1 at the Emirates.

And Ramsey believes Cech's experience and quality could help them overhaul Chelsea and win the Premier League.

The Welshman said: “He is a great signing and has been there and done it with Chelsea.

“We have a great squad at the moment as long as we keep everyone fit... our form in the second half of last season was good, but it’s what you need throughout the whole season to compete.

“Hopefully we can do that and get off to a good start this season and put ourselves in a great position early on."

Ox: Henry was my idol

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has revealed his football idol as a youngster - and it's a familiar face for Arsenal fans.

The Ox has plenty of connections in the football world - his dad Mark is a former England international and his uncle Neville was also a professional player.

But when quizzed on his football influences, the midfielder only had one name in mind and it's one that will go down well with the Gunners faithful.

"Henry. It definitely has to be Thierry, he's the man," Chamberlain revealed when asked at a Premier League Facebook Q&A session.

"He's scored more goals for Arsenal than most people have scored in their whole life at any level.

"The way he scored his goals, all types of different goals. He's just a massive character, a massive face of the game. He was my idol growing up so hes definitely my favourite legend."

'Juventus targeting Ozil'

Juventus are interested in a £29million bid for Mesut Ozil, according to reports in Italy on Friday morning.

Tuttosport claim that the German playmaker is a dream target for the Bianconeri (although dream may be the operative word) as they look to sign a star fit to wear the legendary number 10 shirt.

Any bid would only come in the case of Paul Pogba or Arturo Vidal being sold, with the Turin club unable to justify such an outlay after spending nearly £50million on strikers Paulo Dybala, Simone Zaza and Mario Mandzukic.

The report speaks of Jose Mourinho's admiration for Ozil but alludes to Arsene Wenger's relationship with the player being far less strong.

Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are also mentioned as interested parties.

Wenger won't make additions... yet

Arsene Wenger hinted that he won't consider making long-term additions to his squad until his current players regain full fitness.

The Gunners chief is hoping that next season will see the return to form of Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott, who missed large spells of last campaign through injury.

Wenger told the club website: “The best way to strengthen other areas of the team is to get the players who did not play a lot last year and keep them fit.

“Walcott basically did not play until the end of the season, Wilshere has not played many games.

"Those two were very convincing at the end of the season so I hope that this season we can benefit from their participation and competitiveness.”

David Ospina appears to be open to the possibility of joining Everton, according the Daily Express.

The Colombian has been pushed down the Gunners pecking order following Petr Cech's arrival from Chelsea.

Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is reportedly eyeing Ospina, 26, as 36-year-old Tim Howard's long term replacement.

"They are a very competitive team, which showed significant things during the last season," said Ospina.

"With a good manager and they play good football, it is a team to take into account and a great possibility."
