Wenger lauds Ozil

Arsene Wenger struggled to hide his glee after watching Mesut Ozil's performance against Crystal Palace.

The Gunners downed Palace 2-1 thanks to an acrobatic Olivier Giroud effort and a Damien Delaney own goal.

But it was Ozil's display that Wenger appeared to enjoy most.

"He had a very good performance," said Wenger. "He was important getting out from the back, getting out of tight areas.

"It is a pleasure to watch the quality of his passing and the intelligence of his passing."

"He was absolutely magnificent."

Giroud: Forget Benzema - I'm your man

Olivier Giroud has told Arsenal that he is the right man to lead them to glory - and they do not need Karim Benzema.

The Frenchman has seen his position in the Arsenal team come under threat with interest being shown in Benzema, who many believe would turn the Gunners into serious title contenders.

But Giroud still believes that he can lead the line for the Gunners after netting 19 times last season - despite spending three months out with a broken leg.

Giroud said: "I showed great mental strength last year and I had good stats.

"I always try to improve myself and I feel with the team, so yes, I am sure I can bring something more to the team and to my team-mates."

N'Jie: I was never going to Arsenal

New Tottenham signing Clinton N'Jiewas never going to join Arsenal, he has revealed.

The 21-year-old front man was unveiled as a Spurs player on Saturday morning, despite the late interest from Arsenal in his signature.

It was revealed that bosses acting on behalf of Arsene Wenger spoke to N'Jie's agent as they bidded to hijack his switch to their north London rivals.

But N'Jie was so taken back by the Spurs project that he already had his sights set on playing under Mauricio Pochettino.

He told L'Equipe: "I've never been afraid that my transfer to Tottenham would not materialise.

"I never had the leaders of Arsenal on the phone, they only contacted my agent. My choice was made, I was determined to join Tottenham."
