Tottenham have been linked with a move for Arsenal target Riyad Mahrez.

The Leicester winger is looking to leave the King Power and Spurs believe that the offer of Champions League football could put them ahead of their local rivals in the chase for the Algerian, according to the Sun.

Roma have previously made two bids for the 2016 PFA Player of the Year, but it is thought that the Foxes are holding out for £50million.

While Spurs' chairman Daniel Levy may baulk at that figure, the club have money in the bank following Kyle Walker's £45million move to Manchester City.

Tottenham are yet to make any signings this summer.

Wenger makes contract claim

Arsene Wenger has made the astonishing claim that it is ‘ideal’ for star players to go into their final year without signing a new contract, writes Mirror Football's Marc Isaacs.

Alexis Sanchez continues to be linked with a big money move to Manchester City as he looks to play in the Champions League.

And he could be prepared to make an official transfer request if the club block his move when he returns to work this week.

The Chile superstar is currently in South America as he overcomes a bout of flu, but is due to fly back to England on Monday.

When asked if he was comfortable with the situation, Wenger said: “Not an issue. I think it’s an ideal situation. Everyone has to perform.

“I think in the future you will see it more and more. Why? Because the transfers are so high even for normal players, you will see more and more players going into the final year of the contract because no club will want to pay the amount demanded. I’m convinced in the next 10 years it will become usual."

Arsenal send doctors to see wantaway star Sanchez

Arsenal have had doctors sent to Alexis Sanchez to confirm he has the flu, writes Mirror Football's Darren Lewis.

It follows the Chilean's Instagram post revealing his illness and suggestions it has been a ploy to stay away from training.

The club have declined to comment with Arsene Wenger set to update fans after their game against Sevilla this afternoon.

But Wenger fully expects Sanchez to return to training once he has recovered with the Gunners boss adamant that his star player will not be leaving the Emirates this summer.

“He has flu.’ said Wenger yesterday. “I had him on text [on Friday], he will come back as soon as possible. We were in touch with him and his doctor. No basic problem except he should come back tomorrow [Sunday] but now he comes back Tuesday.”
