Santi Cazorla may have been ruled out with another long term injury but Arsenal are still ready to extend his deal.

Like Per Mertesacker, the Spaniard has six months left on his current contract with Arsenal having an option for a further year.

When quizzed about an extension on Friday, manager Arsene Wenger suggested the club will activate it.

“I haven’t spoken to him,” Wenger said. “The decision will be taken in January.

"It won't depend on his fitness, it will be my decision only. Santi is an exceptional football player and it is just for him to be capable to play."
