Tottenham target Carles Alena has signed a new three-year deal at Barcelona, containing a buyout clause worth €75million.

The 19-year-old had been on Spurs' radar in the summer with a €3m release clause on his contract.

But he has opted to extend his stay with the Catalan giants and now any bidders would have to fork out an eye-watering £68million if they want to lure him away.

Spain Under-19s skipper Alena came through the youth ranks at Barca, attracting interest with his performances in midfield.

Club President Josep Maria Bartomeu was on hand for the signing, which took place at Camp Nou yesterday.

Alena wrote on Twitter: "Very happy to continue to defend the colours of the club of my dreams! Many thanks to all! Forza Barca!"

The deal was announced earlier this summer, and a statement read: "Barcelona and Carles Alena have reached a contract agreement that will see the youngster sign on for the next three years.

"If Alena joins the first team then the deal will be extended by a further two years, and his release clause will reach €75m."

Alena made four senior appearances for Barca last season, against Granada, Sevilla and Osasuna as a substitute in La Liga, and a start in the Copa del Rey against Hercules, in which he scored.

He played 23 times for Barcelona B last term as they won the league title.
