Belgian international Leander Dendoncker has revealed how close he came to signing for Manchester United.

The Anderlecht youth product was linked to a Dendoncker was linked to a £34million move to Old Trafford during the last transfer window but the deal never came to fruition.

Now the 22-year-old has revealed how close it came - and that if it was up to him he would have gone.

He told Sport/Foot (via Sport Witness): "If it was as concrete as was being said, if they wanted me at all costs, I’d already be there.

“When you play for Anderlecht and you have the chance to go there, you don’t hesitate, but Anderlecht had their bit to say. Everyone had to agree."

In short, Man United didn't want it enough or the price was too high.

Paul Pogba 'set to return from injury against Chelsea' as Manchester United star steps up recovery

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is reportedly set to return from injury when the Red Devils take on Chelsea at the start of next month, writes Mirror Football's James Whaling.

The France international has been out of action since September 12 when he picked up a hamstring problem against Basel in the Champions League.

Pogba has stepped up his recovery and is eyeing the Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on November 5 to make his comeback, according to L'Equipe.

The 24-year-old is still not back in full training and United could apparently make the decision for him not to represent France in their friendlies against Wales and Germany.

His Red Devils now face a run of three huge games in nine days — Spurs (who are level on points with United in second place), Benfica's visit in the Champions League and then a trip to champions Chelsea.

“We have a massive game at home against Tottenham, so it’s good to face that game with good feelings,” said Herrera.

“Of course it will be a big statement to beat them — we have to win against them because they are a direct rival for the title and also because we play at home. I have to tell our fans that we really need them on Saturday.

“Tottenham are a real rival. For the last two or three seasons they have improved a lot. They are contenders for everything — even for the Champions League (Herrera was speaking before Spurs' Carabao Cup loss to West Ham)."
