Liverpool have been the fee they will have to cough it if they want to beat Juventus to the signing of Alejandro Grimaldo.

Left back Grimaldo has had a €40million price tag placed on him by Portuguese club Benfica, according to Calcio Mercato.

The 22 year old has played nine times this season and has impressed in the Champions League, including a pair of top notch outings against Manchester United.

The full back role continues to be a sticky area for Jurgen Klopp - with Alberto Moreno still shaky and summer signing Andy Robertson yet to settle in.

But to capture Grimaldo they will need to fight off Juventus and pay a premium.

Jurgen Klopp has revealed Georginio Wijnaldum was so far out of his plans he didn't even take his boots to London to face West Ham, writes Mirror Football's Liam Prenderville.

The Liverpool midfielder played the full 90 minutes as his side romped to a 4-1 victory, days after limping off against Maribor.

Wijnaldum underwent a scan in the week and wasn't going to be involved at the London Stadium.

But after a late injury to Jordan Henderson, Klopp was forced to call upon the Dutch midfielder.

"We lost our skipper overnight and Gini Wijnaldum did not have his boots here," he said.

"We thought he had no chance of playing, we only brought him here so he is nearer to Amsterdam, he was flying there to see the doctor, and he played 90 minutes."

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is being guarded by two former Paratroopers, writes Mirror Online's Phil Cardy.

The highly-trained soldiers, who also served with Special Forces , have been drafted in to protect Liverpool’s manager.

The pair have also acted as close protection for Steven Gerrard , the club’s former captain who is now under-18s coach at the Premier League giants.

It is believed to be the first time ex-Special Forces men have been employed by a British football club.

They are said to be trained to deal with ‘all major incidents’ - amid fears terrorists could strike at a major UK soccer fixture.

A source said: “These men are the best in the business. If you could wish for anyone to have your back it would be these guys.”

They have also shared selfies on social media posing at Liverpool’s Anfield stadium.

And they travel home and away with the team to provide an extra level of security for the team’s stars and the manager.
