Celtic fans favourite Patrick Roberts is heading back to Parkhead on a season-long loan.

The Scottish champions have reached an agreement with Manchester City for the 20-year-old to spend another season in the Scottish Premiership and will be unveiled early next week according to the Daily Record .

Çeltic fans feared they would miss out on his signature as Southampton and a number of clubs across Europe were chasing his signature.

Roberts lit up Parkhead during a loan spell last season and was a key member of the Invincibles side which stormed to the Treble.

He also made an impact in the Champions League and scored against his parent club in a 1-1 draw at the Etihad in December.

That was one of 11 goals the winger scored in 47 appearances for the Hoops last season.

Roberts further endeared himself to the Celtic support when he turned down the chance to go to the Under 20s World Cup with England in May in favour of turning out in the Scottish Cup Final and completing the domestic clean sweep.

After the 2-1 Hampden victory over Aberdeen Roberts thanked the Parkhead club and hinted that he could well return.

He said: “Whatever happens it has been a pleasure to play for this club!

“Thanks to the staff, players and fans for an unforgettable season. Hail Hail.”

Roberts is contracted to City until 2020 but with first team opportunities limited Etihad bosses have now agreed to send the wing king back to Celtic Park on loan with the Hoops on the verge of Champions league group stage qualification for a second successive season.
