Leicester have been dealt a major blow after FIFA reportedly rejected their registration of summer signing Adrien Silva.

The Foxes signed Silva from Sporting Lisbon for £22million on deadline day but only finalised the deal at the very end of the transfer window.

They had to request a two-hour extension to complete the necessary paperwork and it has been deemed the registration was not completed in time.

Remarkably, it is reported they missed the deadline by less than a minute.

According to the BBC's Steve Crossman, the registration was completed 14 seconds past the deadline.

Leicester are set to appeal the decision but now face the prospect of being unable to field Silva until January.

They will be required to pay the player's wages during that time.

Leicester moved for Silva as they agreed to sanction Danny Drinkwater's £35million move to Chelsea.

Boss Craig Shakespeare had been desperate for midfield additions but Silva is now set to be on the sidelines until the new year.

Leicester return to action against champions Chelsea on Saturday.

Silva has already said his goodbye to his former team-mates at Sporting after he returned to the training ground on Monday following international duty with Portugal.
