Manchester United boss is ready to open talks with Mesut Ozil as the Portuguese eyes a reunion with the midfielder next summer.

That is according to Bild, who say Mourinho is keen to rekindle his relationship with Ozil, who he coached at Real Madrid.

The German midfielder's contract at the Emirates expires next summer and he is yet to put pen to paper on fresh terms in north London.

Ozil has won three FA Cups since moving to Arsenal but they have failed to launch a sustained challenge on the Premier League title during his stay.

Romelu Lukaku has what it takes to fill the void left at Manchester United by record goal-scorer Wayne Rooney’s departure, says fellow Red Jesse Lingard.

Rooney is set to return to Old Trafford on Sunday, for the first time since the 253-goal United striker left in July to rejoin his boyhood club Everton.

“We saw last year what Rom’s capable of, with what he did for Everton,” said Lingard. “He scored a lot of goals for them and now he’s carrying on his form here, which is great for us.

“He holds the ball up well, but he also runs in behind defences, which gives the guy on the ball another option. He’s very strong in the box and he’s very good with his head, so he gives a lot of options for the man on the ball.

“Rom’s a very nice lad, he’s got his feet on the ground, he doesn’t let anything faze him. And as long as keeps scoring the goals, he’s going to make the headlines.”

Paul Pogba is set to be sidelined for four weeks with the hamstring injury that forced him out of Manchester United ’s Champions League return.

Pogba underwent a scan at the club’s Aon Training Complex on Wednesday and it is understood the £89million midfielder is facing up to a month on the sidelines.

France star Pogba suffered the injury when he stretched for the ball in the 17th minute of United’s 3-0 win over Swiss visitors Basel in Tuesday's Group A opener.

He had to be substituted and later left Old Trafford on crutches.
