Liverpool have completed the signing of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in a £40m deal with Arsenal.

The England international rejected Chelsea to join up with Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

The 24-year-old has signed a five-year deal and could make his debut next week against Manchester City.

A medical took place on Wednesday evening at St George's Park before England's flight to Malta for their World Cup qualifier.

“I’m currently away with England, so I’m at St George’s Park," said Chamberlain.

"Firstly, I’m delighted to have signed for Liverpool and a big thank-you to everyone here at the FA that has made this possible, using the facilities.

"It has been a massive help.

“I’m not going to say too much today; I’m here with England and we’ve got two big games coming up, so I want to focus on them.

"But I can’t wait to get to Melwood and you’ll hear first from me on LFCTV.”

After pictures emerged of the player following his medical, Arsenal fans reacted angrily, replying to the tweets with the now customary snake emoji.

A reluctance to continue playing as a wing-back has factored into the player's decision, with a desire to play as a centre-midfielder.

Chelsea are fuming over Oxlade-Chamberlain’s snub, as they had a deal agreed and yet the Arsenal midfielder chose to go to Anfield.

The loss of the midfielder will be seen as a blow by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who has been adamant in recent weeks that he wants to keep the player at the Emirates Stadium.

He told Arsenal he would not sign a new deal, turned down an offer of £180,000-a-week and was prepared to leave on a free transfer next summer.

His move ensures Liverpool end the window strongly after a frustrating summer and could ignite a title push.
