Barcelona are ready to turn their attention to Max Meyer as an alternative to Philippe Coutinho.

The Catalan giants had three bids rejected for the Brazilian in the summer but Liverpool held firm.

They have been tipped to revisit the situation in January but may have now found another option.

According to Don Balon, Schalke midfielder Meyer is now on their wishlist.

Jurgen Klopp hailed his Liverpool record-breakers for lifting the weight of history off their backs.

The German’s rampant side rewrote the record books with an incredible seven-goal demolition over Maribor.

It was the English club’s biggest ever away win in Europe, a proud boast considering the club’s rich European past.

Klopp said: “It will give the players a lot of confidence. I was told about the record after the game and I didn’t know about it.

“The wonderful history of this club can feel like a back-pack at times, so it is nice to write our own good piece of the history. It will be difficult to beat that record."

Reds dealt transfer blow

Liverpool target David Brooks has signed a new long-term deal with Sheffield United.

Brooks has enjoyed an excellent start to the Championship season under Blades boss Chris Wilder.

He has attracted interest from Liverpool with Arsenal and Everton both keen.

But Brooks has put pen-to-paper on a contract until the summer of 2021.

It continues an excellent couple of weeks for the 20-year-old, who recently earned his first Wales call-up.
