Liverpool are up against some stiff competition for one of the brightest stars in South America.

Chelsea and Barcelona are also interested in being the club that brings teenager Sebastian Caceres to Europe from Uruguay.

The Sun report that the 18-year-old, who is already playing first team football for the Montevideo-based club coincidentally named Liverpool FC.

His Spanish passport makes bringing him to Europe a lot simpler and his agent is based in England.

Definitely one to watch for the future.

Klopp defends decision to omit Coutinho

Jurgen Klopp defended his decision to omit Philippe Coutinho – despite suffering his biggest defeat as Liverpool boss.

Coutinho was left out of Liverpool’s squad to face City following the protracted saga of the forward’s ultimately failed bid to secure a move to Barcelona.

But Klopp stood by his decision not to involve Coutinho and admitted even the Brazil playmaker may not have been able to save the Reds from such a chastening defeat.

“I’m not sure it’s quite that easy, but if it is that easy – if we bring him in and then everything is great again – then that's cool,” said Klopp.

“With Phil, we didn’t always create more chances against City in the past. Yes, we scored more often in some games. But this was the decision we took [to leave him out].

“If people blame me for this, no problem, but it was a decision taken for the season. He came back after a long flight, after three weeks without playing."

Reds fans can't believe Matt Ritchie escaped with yellow card against Newcastle

Sadio Mane made the headlines on Saturday for a reckless challenge on Ederson.

The Liverpool winger clattered into the Manchester City goalkeeper during the Etihad encounter as he chased down a loose ball.

Referee Jon Moss showed him a straight red card, much to the disappointment of boss Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool fans.

They went on to lose the game 5-0 and their weekend won't have been helped by a decision at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday.
