Riyad Mahrez has been left fuming with Leicester after Arsenal made a £40million bid to land Thomas Lemar.

Leicester winger Mahrez is desperate to move to the Gunners after claiming he has an agreement to let him leave this summer.

Leicester, however, are demanding £50million for the 2016 PFA Player of the Year - a fee that has left Mahrez fearing he is being priced out of a move.

With Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger unwilling to meet the valuation he has turned to 21-year-old Lemar , whose skills helped Monaco to win the French title last season and reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Now unhappy Mahrez has returned to training Leicester and been urged to show commitment to their cause in the wake of there being no bids for him.

The 2015-2016 PFA player of the year announced in a public statement at the end of last season he was determined to quit Leicester with Barcelona another potential destination.

The star has three years left to run on a £100,000-a-week deal signed last summer after helping Leicester to the title.

Foxes boss Craig Shakespeare admits he faces the challenge of trying to integrate Mahrez back into City’s squad although he denied an agreement was struck to let him leave this year.

He said: “Ultimately he’s contracted to the football club and he has to be professional.

“We all can have a little mood swing but it’s about how long that lasts for. It applies to everybody, not just Riyad, the commitment and application has to be there.

“We haven’t had any bids and if we don’t have one, we’ve got no decision to make.

“With making a statement like that of course it’s how you’re accepted by the other players.

“We have to be professional with him but more importantly he has to be committed and I think he has to show supporters, staff and players that.

“But knowing what he’s capable of and the tight links he’s got within that group, they will be fine with him.

“His performances and attitude in training will hopefully improve that and embrace that as we go along.

“Knowing him as I do I think with Riyad he was just trying to be as honest as he can.

“Of course it can disappoint the fans but I need to really sit down with him one-to-one and see where he’s at - in his head and how he feels.

“I’ve always had that decent relationship with him. If players want to go, and we get a bid, we’ll reflect on it.

“But if he’s selected he has to perform and if he doesn’t show commitment he won’t play.”

Despite the lack of progress over Mahrez , it is still shaping up to be a busy summer at the King Power.

Shakespeare is delighted to have signed Harry Maguire from relegated Hull for £18million and midfielder Vincent Iborra from Sevilla for £12m.

Leicester are also set to beat Premier League rivals like West Ham, Swansea and Crystal Palace to the £25m capture of Kelechi Iheanacho.

Leicester had further talks with Man City on Friday about the striker and just now need to finalise terms with the Nigerian’s representatives.

Foxes forward Islam Slimani appears destined for the exit however after failing to impress following a club record £29m switch from Sporting Lisbon last summer.

Shakespeare also remains keen to sign another centre-back with West Brom stopper Jonny Evans his preferred target.
