Manchester United are reportedly set to welcome Vancouver Whitecaps teenager Alphonso Davies for a trial at the club.

The 17-year-old made his MLS debut as a 15-year-old and is regarded as one of North America's best young talents.

Davies is already full Canadian international and according to the Sun , United want him to train with the club at Carrington.

The Teenager was named in the Gold Cup XI of the competition last summer, when he finished as joint-leading scorer.

Any trial would have to get approval from the Whitecaps, who are braced for interest from Europe's top clubs.

Mourinho takes swipe at cynical City's dirty tactics

Jose Mourinho has called on referee Michael Oliver to clamp down on the cynical side of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

The Manchester United manager insists that City’s reputation for playing beautiful football disguises an ability to make things ugly and prevent the opposition hurting them on the counter-attack.

Mourinho said: “It is a strategy that City have.

“They put lots of players in attacking areas and when they lose the ball, they can be unbalanced in terms of numbers. They have lots of people surrounding the ball area and they have a very strong – and this is a great quality – transition in the next few seconds.

“After they lose the ball, many times they need what is called a tactical foul.

“Then it is up to the referee to analyse and to make a decision about it.

“My answer always has to be the referee has to do his job – but I cannot speak about the referee.”

Given: De Gea could get even better if he leaves

David De Gea will become the world's first Galactico goalkeeper.

That's the view of former Ireland legend Shay Given who has cast his eye over today's Manchester derby and predicted the Spaniard will once again be on Real Madrid's wanted list.

While Given has been mighty impressed with the impact of £34m new boy Ederson at the Etihad, saying that only De Gea's back catalogue of saves is nudging him ahead of his rival, he believes that the Old Trafford shot-stopper will move to another level if he returns home.

That could mean he becomes the first £100m footballer. Few would argue following last weekend's super-show at the Emirates. And Given wouldn't put up any argument if that was the case, either.

He said: “I was asked to pick a combined Manchester XI - and I've put De Gea in goal – that's mainly because we've seen more of him. And he's had more to do because Manchester City have been so dominant."
