Manchester United have completed the £40million signing of midfielder Nemanja Matic from Chelsea .

The Serb has joined the Red Devils for an undisclosed fee, penning a three-year deal at Old Trafford.

Matic becomes the club's third signing this summer and is reunited with his former Blues boss Jose Mourinho.

He said: "I am delighted to have joined Manchester United. To work with Jose Mourinho once again was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.

"I have enjoyed my time at Chelsea and would like to thank the club and the fans for their support. I cannot wait to meet my new team-mates and to start training with them.

"This is a very exciting time for the club and I am looking forward to playing my part in creating more history for this great club."

The Serb has won two Premier League titles with the Blues since he re-signed for them in 2014, with the first of these triumphs coming under the management of Mourinho.

The Portuguese said: "Nemanja is a Manchester United player and a Jose Mourinho player. He represents everything we want in a footballer; loyalty, consistency, ambition, team player.

"I would like to thank him for his desire to join us because without that, it would be impossible to have him here. I am sure our players and supporters will love him. A big welcome to our new number 31."

Chelsea signed Tiemoue Bakayoko earlier this summer, which paved the way for Matic to leave the club, with Antonio Conte omitting him from the club's pre-season tour.

Matic's arrival follows the signings of Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku this summer.

United were also linked with Fabinho and Eric Dier, but Mourinho has been gone with a tried and trusted face in Matic.
