Manchester United will speak with Ashley Young in the immediate future with his future up in the air.

After being the subject of approaches in the summer window, and with his contract up at the end of the season, he remains at Old Trafford.

There is a 12-month option to extend in his current contract but The Sun says he’s been told he’ll be no more than a squad player.

They say Joe Mourinho will tell Young straight that he won’t standing in his way if he wants to go on a free.

It is believed, however, the Young wants a one year addition to his stay.

He might have splashed millions improving his Manchester United side since being named manager back in 2016, but Jose Mourinho still doesn't have "the team I want".

The Portuguese added to his squad with the signings of Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic over the summer, but says it will be this time next year before he his satisfied with his group of players.

"I have said three [summer] transfer windows is what I need to have the team I want to have," he told The Times.

"The team I think can bring Manchester United to the top of English football and to close the gap to the top of European football again. And I still think we need that third transfer window, but I'm not going to wait for the third transfer window to try to reach it."

Juan Mata says everyone at Man United knew Marcus Rashford was "special"

Manchester United knew they had "something special" on their hands from the moment Marcus Rashford trained with the first team.

That's according to Juan Mata, who has tipped the young England striker to improve significantly over the next few years.

Rashford has started the new Premier League season well, scoring once and bagging as many in the club's first three games this season.

He's also been on target for the national team in their World Cup qualifying clash with Slovakia, showing no sign of fear fighting Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane for a place in both teams respectively.
