Daley Blind has emerged as the latest target in Barcelona's search for a centre-back, writes Mirror Football's Ed Malyon.

The Nou Camp club came into the summer with a young, top-level central defender as one of their top priorities.

But after passing on John Stones and Aymeric Laporte, both now destined for wealthy Premier League clubs, Barca have been frustrated in their attempts to sign top target Marquinhos.

With Paris Saint-Germain refusing to sell their defensive starlet, Barca know the only way they will get their man is if he forces a move. Thus far, the Brazil international has been reluctant to do so and Barcelona are looking at alternatives.

Sporting director Robert Fernandez is now onto a second tier of targets and these include Sevilla midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak, who they see as a central defender, and Manchester United utility man Blind.

Jose Mourinho has admitted he will fail at Manchester United if he becomes consumed by his rivalry with Pep Guardiola, writes Mirror Football's David McDonnell.

Mourinho and Guardiola, who became enemies when they were in charge of Real Madrid and Barcelona , will resume their rivalry in Manchester this summer.

Self-styled Special One Mourinho admitted he will always court controversy and can never be “innocent” because of his previous misdemeanours.

But the 53-year-old said he and Guardiola will both ultimately lose out if they become obsessed with beating each other once again.

"My experience does not allow me to be innocent,” said Mourinho.

"I was with Guardiola for two years, in a league where me or he would be champion. Individual battles make more sense, because they can affect the outcome [of the title race].

“But in the Premier League, if I were to focus on him and Manchester City, and he were to focus on me and Manchester United, someone else would be champion."

Memphis Depay has not spoken to compatriot Louis van Gaal since he was sacked as Manchester United manager.

Van Gaal handed Memphis his first Netherlands cap before signing him for United, convincing him to pick the Premier League over a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Memphis has admitted his frustration at a lack of game time for United under Van Gaal, but he has refused to blame his former boss for his poor season, report the Manchester Evening News.

“It’s never nice to be criticised, but it’s part of the game and I have to deal with it,” Memphis told Fox Sports. “The season did not go as planned and that hurt my confidence a bit.

“I do not want to blame the manager for it. I played some good games and some bad matches. I do not want to blame anyone for it. I have not been in touch with Van Gaal yet. I might give him a call or send him a text.

Bastian Schweinsteiger was included in the Germany’s Euro 2016 squad for his experience as much as his ability, writes Mirror Football's Adrian Kajumba.

The Manchester United midfielder, 31, made the cut despite continuing doubts over his fitness.

The Germany captain is hugely fortunate having not played since March due to a season-ending knee injury.

The midfielder hardly pulled up any trees before that too, following his summer move to Old Trafford.

But, having been convinced that Schweinsteiger will be fit to feature in France, boss Joachim Low chose to name one of Germany’s last centurions standing in his 23-man party yesterday.
