Manchester United face competition from Inter Milan in their bid to sign Kostas Manolas from Roma.

Italian outlet Calcio Mercato say United manager Jose Mourinho is willing to spend in excess of €50million (£43.7million) to land the Greece international.

However, it is claimed Inter could swoop for Manolas, 25, in the summer with a host of the Nerazzurri's current defenders in line to leave the club.

Andrea Ranocchia, Jeison Murillo and Miranda are all expected to exit the San Siro at the end of the season, leaving Inter in need of defensive reinforcements.

Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola are keen on the Spurs duo with United apparently looking at a £60million joint offer, The Sun claims.

The speed and versatility of the two England internationals is in no doubt, but whether or not they are for sale by Spurs is another matter.

Bumping up their price tag is the fact the pair both agreed five-year contracts this season.

Mourinho: Silva comparisons with me are unfair on him

Jose Mourinho says it is unfair for Hull boss Marco Silva to be branded the new ‘Special One’, writes David McDonnell.

Manchester United host Hull in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final, with the Old Trafford tie seeing the two Portuguese colleagues go head-to head.

Newly-appointed Silva has been likened to Mourinho, having enjoyed a successful start to his managerial career in his native Portugal.

But self-appointed Special One Mourinho, who speaks regularly with Silva, fears his compatriot could be burdened by the flattering likeness.

Silva has already rejected the comparison, with his United counterpart agreeing the perception of Hull’s boss as a ‘Mini Mourinho’ is a plaudit he can do without.

“I don’t think it is good for Marco to be compared with me,” said Mourinho. “I don’t think it’s good for him.

“And I don’t think it’s fair, but I can see a similar start of career, because he was in a small club, Estoril, before he moved to Sporting Lisbon. I was in a small club, Leiria, before I moved to Porto, so we had a similar start in Portugal."
