Lyon star Nabil Fekir is edging closer to a move to Arsenal with talks underway over a potential £60million switch.

That is according to the Daily Star, who say the Gunners have identified Fekir to replace Alexis Sanchez, who is expected to leave the Emirates next summer.

Both Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are out of contract at the end of the campaign and are yet to put pen to paper on fresh terms.

Atletico Madrid and Juventus have also scouted Fekir, whose contract in Lyon runs until 2020.

It is understood that it is to do with tweaking his fitness programme to lower his body-fat ratio in an attempt to ease the pressure on a calf problem that caused him problems during the 2016-17 campaign.

Arsene Wenger is adamant he retains complete control on transfers despite the arrival of Barcelona director of football Raul Sanllehi.

Sanllehi quit Barca to oversee transfer and contract negotiations at Arsenal and will have a similar role to the one he filled at the Nou Camp, but a different job title.

The 48-year-old Spaniard was not a traditional director of football for the Catalan giants, but joins the Gunners because of his extensive contacts book.

It is the latest part of a backroom reshuffle initiated by chief executive Ivan Gazidis, who has also appointed Borussia Dortmund scout Sven Mislintat as head of recruitment.
