Watford’s new boss Marco Silva wants Everton’s former England winger Aaron Lennon.

Everton have made a number of signings this summer pushing the 30-year-old down the pecking order.

Lennon has been receiving treatment for mental health issues with the club fully supporting his comeback to the first team. He is in the final year of his contract, a situation which has alerted Silva, who has expressed an interest in bringing Lennon to Vicarage Road either on loan or permanently for a small fee.

Silva believes Watford can rekindle Lennon’s career while adding pace to his side.

Meanwhile, Watford are confident of tying up a loan deal for Valencia defender Aymen Abdennour.

Marco Silva has made signing a new centre-half a priority, with the Tunisian top of his list.

Watford are willing to pay the Spanish club £2million to take Abdennour on a season’s loan. A permanent £9m deal has also been put in place – with the final decision now resting with Abdennour.

Abdennour, 27, is surplus to requirements at the La Liga side but also has offers from clubs in France, Italy and Turkey.

Hornets boss Silva has targeted Spartak Moscow’s Serdar Tasci if the deal falls through. The German would cost around £3m, but Stoke and Newcastle are also keen on the no-nonsense Tasci.

Watford have snapped up five new players but will recoup funds by selling Dutch flop Steven Berghuis to Feyenoord for £5.7m.
