Vincent Kompany is taking nothing for granted in the title race – despite Manchester City holding a 12-point lead.

City skipper Kompany knows how quickly a commanding lead can vanish, having benefited from Manchester United’s collapse in 2012 to snatch the title in dramatic style on the last day of the season.

United were eight points ahead with six games to go, only to lose the title on goal difference as Sergio Aguero’s dramatic added-time goal sealed a first Premier League crown for the Blues.

And even though Pep Guardiola’s side hold a seemingly unassailable lead, Kompany is warning his team-mates not to fall into the trap of believing the title is already theirs.

“I draw on that,” said Kompany (above). “I don’t know if everyone remembers, but with six games left we were eight points behind.

“That’s why I’m probably always the first guy to come in and say, ‘No guys, we can’t really say it’s over.’

“I really don’t want that, so we push and push and push and no-one has the right to let their performance level down and let their guard down.

“We all have a role to say something – there are a lot of experienced lads in the team. We do mention it, but the manager will have mentioned it many, many times as well.

“But, ultimately, it’s the same for everyone – we all have that feeling and don’t want it to go away.”
