Philippe Coutinho and Alexis Sanchez have had quite similar summers.

Both players were pursued by big clubs, willing to spend big money on them. Both were expected to leave in mega moves. And crucially, both ended up staying where they were.

In a further parallel between Arsenal's Chilean and Liverpool's Brazilian, the two South American stars both missed the start of the season for their teams - both with, shall we say, 'convenient' injuries.

However, there has been one key difference between the two players in the last week or so - the way they have been welcomed back to their home stadiums.

Coutinho made his return to Anfield in the Champions League match against Sevilla, coming off the bench in the 76th minute.

Despite the transfer request and the knowledge that he was keen to move to Barcelona, the Liverpool fans gave him a warm welcome, applauding him onto the pitch.

For some people, this immediately make them think of the reception Sanchez got when he came off the bench for Arsenal against Bournemouth.

While there were some cheers, the boos were louder at the Emirates.
