Aleix Vidal could be set to move to the Premier League after the Barcelona star's agent began talks with clubs in Manchester and Liverpool.

The right-sided player scored in El Clasico at the Bernabeu last month but is behind Sergi Roberto and Nelson Semedo to operate on the right for Ernesto Valverde's side.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Everton are in talks to sign the 28-year-old, report Estadio Deportivo.

The player's versatility to play right-back, ring wing or in midfield could be appealing for all the sides mentioned, with Barcelona likely to accept a modest fee given the need to raise funds after forking out £142m for Philippe Coutinho.

How Mourinho won battle with Woodward to sign Sanchez

Manchester United's imminent capture of Alexis Sanchez is a huge victory for Jose Mourinho in his battle to match the spending of his immediate rivals.

On Boxing Day, after a 2-2 home draw with Burnley left United 12 points adrift of leaders Manchester City, Mourinho sent a blunt message to the Old Trafford hierarchy, claiming the £300million spent in two transfer windows under him was not enough.

Three days later, Mourinho was at it again, warning executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and the United board they risked a prolonged period in the shadow of neighbours and rivals City if they did not fork out the funds required to compete with them.

“The problem is not the money we invest, the problem is the money the others invest,” said Mourinho. “And it’s the problem that others with better squads, with better stability, with more options - they keep investing.”

Shaw confident he has Jose on side

Luke Shaw believes he is winning over Jose Mourinho in his battle to prove himself at Manchester United.

Shaw, who has been out of favour under Mourinho for much of the United manager’s reign, has started their last five games in all competitions, completing 90 minutes every time.

England boss Gareth Southgate was at Old Trafford to watch Shaw star in United’s 3-0 win over Stoke on Monday, with the left-back in the running for a call-up to the World Cup squad this summer.

Shaw looked to heading for the exit at Old Trafford when Mourinho publicly questioned his focus and commitment, but the 22-year-old has knuckled down and proved he can nail down the left-back slot for United.

“Body-wise and fitness-wise I probably feel the best I’ve ever felt,” said Shaw. “Mentally I feel strong as well and I’m enjoying my football.

“It’s always about working hard, that’s always something I’ve always tried to do throughout my career and will always try to do."
