Leon Goretzka has been told to p*** off by Schalke fans disgruntled at the midfielder's decision to join Bayern Munich on a free transfer this summer.

The 22-year-old was a top target for Manchester United and Liverpool but angered Schalke fans by agreeing to join rivals Bayern.

Ahead of tonight's game against Hannover, Schalke fans delivered a strongly-worded message to Goretzka, ensuring a hostile end to his time at the Veltins-Arena.

The banner read: “Neither money nor trophies are worth more than our club, the one who does not appreciate that can p*** off immediately!”

Manager Christian Heidel bemoaned Goretzka's decision and insisted he even agreed to extend his stay in Gelsenkirchen last summer.

"We've done everything we can to keep Leon," Heidel said.

"In the summer there was an agreement with him and his advisor. He still wanted time to wait for athletic development."

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, meanwhile, could not hide his delight at the signing.

"We are very happy that Leon has decided, despite considerable competition from abroad, to sign for FC Bayern," Rummenigge said.

"This ensures he will remain in the Bundesliga."
