Tottenham are attempting to gazump bitter rivals Arsenal and land Brazilian midfielder Malcom.

The Bordeaux star looked set to join the Gunners this month after the club held talks with his representatives.

But Arsenal are instead focusing on bringing in Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Manchester United and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund.

And that has given hope to Spurs who are reported to have had their own discussions with Malcom's agent.

The player is likely to cost around £40million and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger confirmed all but ruled out a move for the Brazilian on Thursday.

He said: "No. I don't think we are close to doing that. No, I don't think so."
