Jose Mourinho extends impressive record versus CSKA Moscow

Manchester United were comfortable 4-1 winners at CSKA Moscow this evening to make it two wins from two in this season’s Champions League.

In the other game in Group A, FC Basel’s 5-0 thrashing of Benfica means that we are three points clear of the two teams we have beaten whilst the Portuguese champions remain pointless before we play them back-to-back in our next European outings.

Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring with a back post headed inside five minutes this evening.  Anthony Martial had provided the cross before scoring the second himself with a cool penalty after Henrikh Mkhitaryan had been brought down inside the penalty area.

The experienced Vitali Berezutski somehow failed to deal with Martial’s cross from down the left gifting Lukaku a tap in from close range for his second in the opening half hour.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan added a fourth when he was the quickest to react to Igor Akinfeev parrying Anthony Martial’s effort from the edge of the area.

CSKA Moscow scored a consolation in the final minute of the game.

This 4-1 victory for Jose Mourinho means he has now won six of his seven matches versus CSKA Moscow as a manager, drawing the other.  Those results are as follows:

20 October 2004: Chelsea 2-0 CSKA Moscow (Group Stage)
2 November 2004: CSKA Moscow 0-1 Chelsea
31 March 2010: Internazionale 1-0 CSKA Moscow (Quarter-final)
