New managerial rumor adds fuel to the Koeman out fire

We’re really at the Koeman out stage. I said a few weeks ago that he needed to win every game up to the Arsenal game for me to remain Koeman in and, well... the man just won’t pick a team that makes any dang sense.

So rumors have clown all over the place about who should replace him. One man, who has been in the Everton radar before, is Shakhtar Donetsk manager Paulo Fonseca. After dominating Ukraine last year, yes that Ukraine, the 9th strongest UEFA coefficient federation in the world, for whatever that’s worth.

Here’s the thing, Paulo already had a shot at a bigger club than where he’s at, he coached Porto in 2013-2014. He played for Porto, so he had a lot of good vibes coming his way, but being in third, 9 points behind Benfica, he was let go before the season even ended.

That officially puts his career trajectory in a downward direction. He spent a little time in the mid tier of Portugal, doing decently well for himself, before going to Shakhtar, and he’s picked up some minor titles along the way, but the fact of the matter is that Everton would be getting a less accomplished coach than we have now.

This is the life of mid season coaching changes, especially when your team finds itself at the very wrong end of the table a quarter of the way into the season. Ronald Koeman has set back the Everton project in a big way. If Fonseca is the replacement, maybe it puts a little life back into this team, but honestly right now we are probably looking at simple survival for this season regardless of who is at the help, and then look for a hard reset next summer.
