Everton vs Lyon, Arsenal: Writer Prediction League

Confidence is at an all-time low

As has been the case with a lot of things this season, Everton has taken the fun out of making predictions.

The club was poor again last week, this time against newly-promoted Brighton and Hove Albion — managing a lucky 1-1 draw to bring its Premier League points total to eight.

The saddest part? Five of our 12 writers predicted a result this disappointing! So, as you might guess, the predictions for what could be a season-defining week against Lyon and Arsenal are extraordinarily bleak.

But before we get into that, let’s review the predictions from the BHA match.

BHA Predictions

Writer First Scorer Everton MOTM Winner Score Points
Writer First Scorer Everton MOTM Winner Score Points
Adam Calvert-Lewin Calvert-Lewin Everton 1-0 0
Brian F. Calvert-Lewin Calvert-Lewin Draw 1-1 4
Brian L. Calvert-Lewin Sigurdsson Everton 2-1 0
Callum Gross Calvert-Lewin BHA 2-0 0
Calvin Knockaert Vlasic BHA 2-1 2
Chris Sigurdsson Sigurdsson Draw 1-1 4

Sean Sigurdsson Gueye Everton 1-0 0
Tom Sigurdsson Sigurdsson Everton 2-0 0
Tyler Sigurdsson Sigurdsson Everton 2-0 0
Zach Calvert-Lewin Calvert-Lewin Everton 2-0 0

Three writers got both the result and score right, picking up four points. Calvin picked both the first scorer and Everton MOTM correct, keeping his hot start to the season alive. That hot start has Calvin atop the prediction league table after eight weeks.

Calvin continues to comfortably lead the group, with Mike as the closest competitor. Brian F. and Matt’s strong week helped push them into the top half as well, but we’ve all got a ways to go before we can realistically challenge Calvin.

We might struggle to start closing that gap this week, because we’ve pretty unanimously predicted doom and gloom for the Toffees this week. Our picks for the Lyon and Arsenal matches are below.

Only one writer has Everton getting three points from the essentially must-win match against Lyon on Thursday, while two have Everton clawing out a victory against Arsenal at Goodison Park on Sunday.

The Everton man of the match predictions for both games are pretty varied — perhaps a reflection of the players’ inability to set themselves apart.
