It was a tough day for Everton with both the Ladies and the lads losing 2-0 although the argument could be made that the women deserved a much better result against Arsenal. The Toffees did have a goal in the end of the first half off of a corner but it didn’t count due to a foul on the Gunners goalkeeper.

Claudia Walker and Chloe Kelly both impressed in this game, helping the team to rack up an impressive 14 shots. Walker continued the trend of shooting on goal early, this time within the first minute of the game. Kelly tested her old team’s goalkeeper several times and never gave up, not even in the final minutes of the game.

First goal from Dutch international Vivianne Miedema, 24 mins in:

Second Arsenal goal from Beth Mead:

Great save from Everton goalkeeper Lizzie Durack, who saw herself back in the lineup:

Stats:

  • Possession: 42% Everton, 58% Arsenal
  • Shots: 14 Everton, 16 Arsenal
  • Shots on Target: 8 Everton, 9 Arsenal

Courtney Sweetman-Kirk has yet to score this season but once she finds her shot, expect to see a hot streak from the striker.

Continental Cup game against Birmingham on Thursday and then a tough league game at Man City on Sunday.
