Allardyce claims he can salvage Everton’s disastrous season

Since Ronald Koeman was sacked as manager of Everton a week ago, a host of names have been linked with the job, and then promptly discarded as well. Under-23s manager David Unsworth has been handed the position on an interim basis, though it is not clear how many games he’s been given to right the sinking ship.

An impotent performance filled with tactical naivete yesterday has not helped Rhino’s chances at getting the job permanently, and today Blues worldwide will be filled with dread to hear that Sam Allardyce is actually the bookmakers’ favourite to get the position.

Yes, the very same Allardyce who just completed the shortest-lived tenure as England manager before being fired after he was exposed in a sting operation uncovering corruption and illegal payments in football.

‘Big Sam’ had previously counted himself out of the Leicester City job that just went to Claude Puel last week, saying he wasn’t ready for another management job after he quite Crystal Palace in May to spend more time with his family.

However speaking to the media about the Toffees job, he did not take himself out of the running -

“Who knows? I’d have to consider that if that phone call happens.

“There’s no point in speculating at the moment. David Unsworth’s in the chair.”

Allardyce went on to add that he knew exactly what it would take to fix Everton’s woes.

“I’ve been in this position a number of times at the last three clubs I’ve had, and I would just put the team back to basics, and show them exactly what it takes to get out of this position.

“And of course sometimes it’s not entertaining, particularly away from home. But it’s about the commitment, getting the result and how you do it.”

The Blues’ current position and utter chaos on the pitch might lead the disgruntled fan to believe for a split second that Allardyce might be the right man for the job at Everton, but we urge you to grab a hold of yourself, take a deep breath, calm your thoughts and let sanity prevail, because hiring Big Sam will only take the Toffees further back in history.
