A Diego Costa loan to Everton isn’t going to happen

Koeman getting understandably desperate.

Olivier Giroud is staying at Arsenal. Nikola Kalinic is joining AC Milan. Crystal Palace don’t want to sell Christian Benteke. Enter...Diego Costa?

Probably not.

Everton’s search for a man to lead the line has gotten so dire in recent days that a reporter queried Ronald Koeman regarding the potential of taking the exiled Chelsea striker on loan. The Dutchman left the door open:

Of course you like to sign players for the future.

But if you can get the best one that way, then why not?

Let’s be clear: Diego Costa is a phenomenal footballer. However, Antonio Conte has banished him for a reason. Costa is a notoriously poor presence to have around a side, undisciplined, and generally a nuisance when things aren’t going his way.

After missing all of preseason, it’s incredibly unlikely that Costa is in any sort of match fitness. Furthermore, the Spaniard has made it abundantly clear he will join Atletico Madrid and Atletico Madrid only.

Diego Costa won’t join Everton on a permanent transfer, and a loan is a waste of time for all parties at this point in the summer window. Move along - nothing to see here.
