Everton fullback woes could be solved by Luke Shaw transfer from Manchester United

Everton have long been looking for cover for Leighton Baines. Here at Royal Blue Mersey, we have consistently tried to put out names that we think would be good fits. Among these names have been Schalke’s Benedikt Howedes and Manchester United’s Daley Blind.

It is easier to speculate to these sorts of things when the would-be selling club is making the club available for sale, and this seems to be the case with United’s Luke Shaw. The 22-year-old’s once-incredible career trajectory has been slowed by a combination of injuries and the pompous absurdity that is Jose Mourinho undermining his every move.

So, with United looking to spend more money, Shaw is apparently up for sale. He’s still very talented, very gifted, and is in the perfect place in his career where he would benefit both from the tutelage of a veteran like Baines and also from the regular minutes Everton could offer him in rotation.

For his career, Shaw completes a little over half his dribbles, a little under half his long balls, and a decent bit over half his attempted tackles. The interesting thing here is that he’s been hurt so much that it’s really hard to tell where his development currently sits. He hasn’t put together more than 1000 league minutes since 2015.

In a mostly theoretical world where Everton had the choice to pursue Blind, Howedes, or Shaw, Shaw’s probably in last place out of the three. He’s solid, he’s got the most upside of the three, but he’s the least useful right now. The fee involved in securing him would probably involve a bit of a bump because he’s English and because we’re inside the same league.

It should be noted that other rumours about Shaw are floating that he’s about to sign a new deal. This is the epitome of silly season. Two completely contradictory things, being rumoured at the same time. Fortunately, in a couple weeks it’ll be over and we’ll know for sure what is what.
