Koeman confirms Everton still looking for two more players

Going into the last few weeks of the transfer window, we knew Everton were looking for three more players. Now with Gylfi Sigurdsson finally signed and the window closing in less than ten days, manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed that the Blues are still looking for two more transfers coming in.

Speaking to the media after the 1-1 draw at Manchester City, Koeman was asked if the Blues were done for the summer in the transfer market.

"I hope not.

"We are looking for a left-footed central defender, maybe as back-up for Leighton Baines.

"With the injury to Funes Mori we don't have any left-footers on that side as a back-up for Leighton. That's an option.”

He then added that he still wanted to add a target man up front.

"Also a striker because I think even with the talent of Dominic and Ramirez, look to other squads.

"They have that number of players. If we need to make the next step we need a striker in as well."

While Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s strong showing yesterday proved that he was readier than he looked for the Premier League limelight, the Blues could most certainly use a big body amongst the forwards. Sandro Ramirez, Wayne Rooney and Ademola Lookman are all diminutive in size and it would be a waste to have a dead-ball delivery master like Sigurdsson in your side but no large targets upfront for him to aim at.

Meanwhile, adding a left back or a left-sided center half who can play outside in a pinch is also priority with Everton’s non-existent depth at the position. Leighton Baines will turn 33 this season and with the Blues facing an expanded schedule through European competition, it’s lunacy to expect the veteran to play all the games.

With the closing of the window approaching the links to players, especially on the defence, have really dried up and it remains to be seen what Koeman and Steve Walsh will do at the position to prevent it from becoming a critical weak link.
