Everton at Manchester City: Extended Highlights

Everton came away with a 1-1 draw at the Etihad against Manchester City, in an inconsistently-officiated game by referee Bobby Madley.

The Blues drew first blood with Wayne Rooney slotting home his second goal of the campaign from a well-worked move by Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Minutes later City were reduced to ten men after Kyle Walker was given a second caution for driving his shoulder into Calvert-Lewin’s jaw.

Despite the one-man advantage, the hosts drove forward incessantly and eventually made their persistence count, with Raheem Sterling volleying home from the edge of the box off a misplaced headed clearance from Mason Holgate.

The Blues will be unhappy to have dropped two points with just minutes left to play, but will be even more ticked off by the sending off of Morgan Schneiderlin later in the game after executing a good tackle to win the ball.

In the end, it’s probably fair to say that the Toffees would have settled for a point before the game, but after the way the first half played out, will be disappointed to have not come away with a win.
