Everton have already swiped up and coming defender Lewis Gibson away from Newcastle United, so why stop there?

Reports state that the Blues are now after England U20 goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, who already has experiencing playing with five different Everton players at the recent youth World Cup.

Woodman, 20, excelled in net for the Three Lions, and would likely represent a serious upgrade on Mateusz Hewelt in David Unsworth’s U23 setup at USM Finch Farm.

The young shot stopper recently renewed his contract at St. James Park, which makes it unclear how difficult it would be to pry him away from Rafa Benitez’s side.

Given Everton’s commitment to their youth program - and by proxy, the long term future of the club - signing Freddie Woodman is another move that would make sense.

However, it seems possible that Woodman himself would not want to be stuck behind a goalkeeper as young and talented as Jordan Pickford. Crystal Palace are also rumoured to be interested in the goalkeeper, and Woodman may see Selhurst Park as a more attractive destination for now given the likely playing opportunities.

Either way, if Newcastle are insistent on letting the youngster leave, Everton should definitely be interested.
