Koeman: It's all about scoring and not making mistakes

Everton fell to a fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions, with the 4-0 scoreline favouring the hosts Manchester United. The Blues looked much better than they have recently, and despite falling behind to an early goal, they gave a reasonable account of themselves for most of the match before falling away in the later stages with mistake after mistake.

After the game, manager Ronald Koeman was a little happier about the performance, but bemoaned the final result.

"I saw a reaction from the players today. Of course, when you see the result - you think there was only one team on the pitch but that was not the case.

“I saw a team that had more desire, togetherness and aggression on the pitch compared to Thursday, even with the result.

“Yes, of course (it was a harsh scoreline). Sometimes you get more than you deserve but today we got less. But it's all about scoring and not making mistakes like we did for the second goal.”

With three of the toughest games of the season done (Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United all away), Koeman wants the team to start racking up some points between now and the next international break in about a month.

"We need a win, because a win is the best medicine to grow your confidence. If we take the positives from today, I have the belief we can get that.

"We were different to how we played last week. We were still a bit afraid with the way we started the game but we grew.

"It's really difficult to keep the players confident. We started afraid and maybe that's normal if you have a difficult start to the season. We have played against four title contenders, as well as Europa League on Thursday.

"That means now, for the coming weeks, we have four home games before the next international break. We need to win those."
