In a few tweets today, Ross Barkley clarified what happened on Deadline Day with his purported medical at Chelsea that he apparently walked away from.

It does appear that if Barkley was attempting to curry favour with the Everton supporters then that hasn’t quite worked as Toffees are feeling that he’s ended up costing the club money as Everton will be very unlikely to get the £35m that it appears the two sides had worked out as a transfer fee.

The statement really doesn’t do much to change the situation as it stands. With his injury likely keeping him out until nearly December, it’s very unlikely that Ross Barkley plays for Everton again.

It remains to be seen where he continues his rehabilitation from the surgery to repair his hamstring tear. Despite his contract with the club, it’s likely he’ll get frozen out of first team sessions and will either end up with the Under-23s or training on his own.

Unfortunate that it’ll have to end like this for a player not so long ago idolized by the fanbase, when chants of “We’ve got a diamond called Ross Barkley” rang clear across the stands at Goodison Park.
