Edinson Cavani on Everton’s radar after dispute with Neymar

The Uruguayan is definitely a striker

Put enough egos together on a field, and they’ll inevitably clash. Somewhat predictably, that has come to pass between Paris St. Germain’s new star Neymar and their old one Edinson Cavani.

Equally predictable are the subsequent reports that PSG may be willing to offload their old blood in order to appease the new blood. Of course, Cavani insists there is no ill will, but the French giants have to make a few sales in order to comply with Financial Fair Play anyway after buying Neymar and acquiring Kylian Mbappe.

At any rate, the Daily Mail alleges that Everton - along with Chelsea and Napoli - have been put on high alert regarding the Uruguayan international’s situation.

Cavani has acquired a reputation as something of a bottler - he purportedly is not a big game player.

Hogwash. Edinson Cavani is a goal scoring machine of the highest order. His goal tallies from the last four years are 49 (!), 25, 31, 25. If there was ever a ready-made replacement for Romelu Lukaku, Cavani is it.

The problem is that the chances Cavani would agree to join the project at Goodison Park are slim and none, and slim just walked out the door.

The 30 year old will require a leading role, which Everton can offer, but he’ll also want Champions League football, and that’s where things begin to get sketchier. The Blues can afford Cavani’s wages, but a transfer fee could be bordering on astronomical, and the chances of a top four finish or Europa League win are looking uh, well, pretty bad.

It’s unfortunate, because Edinson Cavani is exactly the type of player Everton should have been lining up on July 1st. The failure to land a striker of any caliber has been comprehensive. Our hearts yearn for you, Diego Costa Jamie Vardy Nikola Kalinic Willian Jose Olivier Giroud Edin Dzeko Raul Jimenez Kenneth Zohore Lucas Perez Danny Welbeck Christian Benteke literally anyone.
