Merseyside battle for Under-20 World Cup winner

League One side Charlton Athletic have lost players to both sides of Merseyside, and now there’s interest in another one of their young stars.

After selling Joe Gomez to Liverpool and Ademola Lookman to Everton, the latest player to have caught the two club’s fancy is central defender Ezri Konsa Ngoyo.

The Mirror are reporting that both sides will come knocking in the January transfer window for the player who was part of England’s Under-20 World Cup winning side from this summer.

Everton are always on the lookout for young talent to bolster the ranks at the Under-23 side, and it’s quite incredible how in recent transfer windows since the arrival of Farhad Moshiri at the club, manager David Unsworth has been pretty much handed his own transfer budget to play with.

The Blues sent out over half a dozen youngsters on loan at the end of the summer transfer window, and replaced those players with an injection of fresh blood, and it appears that Director of Football Steve Walsh will continue to support developing the Academy system with Konsa.

The 19-year-old has played in 48 games for the Addicks over the last two seasons, showing plenty of potential. Though Konsa won a gold medal with the Under-20 World Cup squad over the summer, he only featured for a minute in one game as he made his England debut.

The youngster signed a contract extension at Karl Robinson’s side in March of this year that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2019-20 season, but it is thought a bid in the £3m region could convince Charlton to part with the player
