Everton beat AFC Bournemouth 2-1 yesterday in a comeback performance with second half substitute Oumar Niasse bagging a late brace to give the Blues all three points at Goodison Park.

The home side struggled mightily in the first half to break down the well-organized visitors, who were content to pack the defence and rely on the counter attack. With the Blues labouring to move the ball efficiently in their opponent’s half, it was the Cherries who went ahead early in the second stanza with a fine run and finish from Josh King.

Ronald Koeman immediately made changes as the Toffees went in search of the equalizer, with Niasse and Tom Davies coming on. The young midfielder sparked the otherwise belabouring midfield, and combined with Niasse and Dominic Calvert-Lewin paired up top to give the visitors fits.

While in no way a convincing performance by Everton, right now three points any way they come is useful after a hellish opening set of fixtures saw the Blues down in the relegation zone before yesterday. Once cast out by Koeman, it’s almost ironic that Niasse has stormed back into the reckoning while giving the Dutchman some breathing room from the critics.
